What Is A Default Judgment?

After a complaint has been filed by the plaintive, the other side, or the defendant must file an answer to the complaint within 20 days of receiving it and serve a copy of the answer on the plaintive.

If the other side, or the defendant, does not file an answer within a time period or in this case 21 days or 20 days, the plaintiff can ask the court to enter a default judgment if, and when the court enters the judgment, the plaintiff will get everything that was asked for in the complaint. the plaintiff will then need to send a copy of the default judgment to the defendant to give them notice of the default.
